The value pick

Everything a short family stay needs, and nothing that inflates the rate

Straightforward family accommodation without fuss. Everything a short family stay needs is here — ensuite, bedding for a family, fridge, TV, tea and coffee — and nothing that would push the rate up for guests who are out all day anyway.

A blue feature wall behind the beds, twin and double bedding, and an armchair recliner beside the TV and bar fridge. Simpler than the Family Room next door in both size and styling, with the same ensuite, the same bedding quality and the same inclusions.

Housekeeping and fresh towels

Daily automatic servicing is not guaranteed so rates can remain practical. Fresh towels or a room tidy can be arranged on request during reception hours.

Who books it

Families passing through rather than settling in, and anyone whose priority on this trip is the rate rather than the square metres.

Fitting it to the trip

Cessnock sits roughly halfway between Sydney and the Upper Hunter, so a fair share of the guests here are one night into a longer drive. Being in the town centre means dinner is a walk rather than a second trip in the car after a day of it.

Worth saying plainly

This is the smaller and plainer of our two family options, and it is priced that way. If your stay is more than a couple of nights, or you expect to spend evenings in rather than out, the Family Room is worth the difference.

How it compares, and what is included

Anything not answered here, call (02) 4991 4712 — reception can confirm bedding, access and availability in a minute.

What is the difference between this and the Family Room?

Size and styling. The Family Room is our largest space and has a separate lounge corner; this one is more compact and simply furnished, with a recliner rather than a seating area. Inclusions, bedding quality and the ensuite are the same in both.

Which one should we book?

If you are here one or two nights and out most of the day, this one and put the difference toward dinner. If you are staying longer, or travelling with children who need somewhere to be in the evening, take the Family Room.

Is breakfast included at this rate?

Yes. Complimentary self-service continental breakfast is included for every guest regardless of which option you book — bread and toaster, cereal, fruit, jam and spreads, subject to availability.

How late can we check in?

Reception is open Monday to Saturday 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM and Sunday 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Later arrivals can often be arranged, but it must be organised before you set off rather than on the night.

Is it quiet?

It is a heritage building in a town centre, so you will hear the street more than you would at a purpose-built motel on the edge of town. Most guests find it settles down early on weeknights. There is no public bar downstairs.
