The workhorse

A large bed, a desk that is actually a desk, and a good shower

The most straightforwardly comfortable thing we have: a large bed, somewhere to work, and a good shower. It carries cellar-door weekends, concert nights, golf trips and midweek work stays without much fuss.

Vintage furniture against warm walls, a gallery wall of framed artwork, an armchair in the corner and a proper writing desk rather than a token shelf. The ensuite has a walk-in rainfall shower and a picture window. Some of these look out over the garden. It is the most photographed part of the building, and the photographs are why.

Housekeeping and fresh towels

Daily automatic servicing is not guaranteed so rates can remain practical. Fresh towels or a room tidy can be arranged on request during reception hours.

Who books it

One person who wants a good bed and a surface to work at, or a couple who would rather have the king than the decoration. It is our most-booked midweek choice.

Fitting it to the trip

Midweek this is largely business travel — people working in Cessnock, out at the vineyards, or passing through on the way to the Upper Hunter. Free Wi-Fi, a desk, free parking and a breakfast you can take at your own pace cover most of what a work trip actually needs.

Worth saying plainly

The building is heritage and the layouts vary between king configurations, so the exact furniture and outlook are not identical from one stay to the next. If a garden outlook or a particular arrangement matters to you, ask when booking rather than after.

Questions from business travellers

Anything not answered here, call (02) 4991 4712 — reception can confirm bedding, access and availability in a minute.

Is there somewhere proper to work?

Yes — an antique writing desk with a chair, not a folding table against a wall. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout the building and handles video calls and file uploads without drama.

Do all of these look the same?

No. The building is heritage and the king configurations vary in furniture, artwork and outlook. Some have a garden view. If something specific matters to you, mention it when you book and reception will do what they can.

Is it suitable for a longer work contract?

It is a common choice for exactly that. Note that rooms are not serviced daily by default — that keeps the rate practical — but fresh towels or a tidy can be arranged during reception hours.

Can I park a work vehicle?

There is free off-street parking onsite, and work vehicles are normal here. If you are bringing something oversized or towing, ring ahead so we can tell you honestly what will fit.

What time can I get breakfast before an early start?

Breakfast is self-service in the guest dining room, so you help yourself rather than waiting on a kitchen to open. Bread and toaster, cereal, fruit, jam and spreads, subject to availability.
