◆The sensible one◆
Deliberately unremarkable, and priced accordingly
Comfortable, quiet and straightforward. The bed and the bathroom are the point; everything else is deliberately unremarkable, and the rate reflects it.
Calm and uncomplicated: a green upholstered headboard, clean walls, a smart TV and a tea and coffee station. The ensuite has a walk-in shower and a timber vanity. Nothing here is trying to be a talking point, which is precisely why some guests keep rebooking it.

Nothing is stripped out at this rate
Paying less here does not buy you a shorter list. The inclusions below are identical across every option at the inn.
Housekeeping and fresh towels
Daily automatic servicing is not guaranteed so rates can remain practical. Fresh towels or a room tidy can be arranged on request during reception hours.
Who books it
Couples and solo travellers who want a good night's sleep at a fair price, and repeat guests who worked out on their second visit that this is the sensible one.
Fitting it to the trip
This is the one-night-in-the-Hunter option. Arrive late, sleep well, and be at a cellar door or on the road north by mid-morning without having paid for a weekend's worth of atmosphere you were never going to use.
Worth saying plainly
It is the plainest thing we have, and we would rather say so than have you arrive expecting the vintage mirrors from the photographs of the Deluxe. If character is what drew you to the inn, spend the extra.
◆Good to know
Straight answers
Anything not answered here, call (02) 4991 4712 — reception can confirm bedding, access and availability in a minute.
Is this the cheapest option for two?
It is our plainest two-guest option and is generally priced below the Queen Deluxe. Actual rates move with the dates and the season, so check availability for your nights rather than assuming.
What am I giving up compared with the Deluxe?
Decoration, and nothing else. Bed size, ensuite, inclusions, breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking are the same. The Deluxe has the vintage mirror, the bold textiles and the styling; this one has plain walls.
Is it a good choice for one night?
It is the one we would book ourselves for a single night. Arrive, sleep, take breakfast at your own pace and go — without paying for atmosphere you will be asleep for.
Is there tea and coffee?
Yes, along with a bar fridge, microwave and toaster. The shared guest kitchen with its stove and oven is a few steps away if you want to cook something properly.
How close is it to restaurants?
The inn sits on Vincent Street in central Cessnock, so cafés, restaurants and pubs are a walk rather than a drive. That is the main practical advantage of the town centre over the vineyards.
